Up to now we have only collected a small amount of information on people who went from Dorset to Newfoundland yet we know there was a great amount of trade between the two locations. Poole was the centre of this trade and Bridport, also on the Dorset coast, prospered by producing cod lines and nets for the Newfoundland fishing industry. Gordon Hancock's book 'Soe longe as there comes noe women' describes the origins of the English settlement in Newfoundland. We would be very grateful if the descendants of those people could send in some data about their ancestors. Return to World Regions E-mail us |
